How to save money for travelling

The number one excuse to why people wish to go travelling but can’t is MONEY. There are many ways that mean that anyone can save enough to travel. When I first started saving I didn’t know exactly where I wanted to go I just knew I wanted to explore. While doing my a levels and a part time job I saved money along the way, when I finished my a levels it left me with a 6-8 week holiday in which I saved most of my money.

The first thing you need to do is make a savings account. This is soooo soo important as it allows you to transfer the majority of the money you want to save ( apart from what you need to live off). It is heart breaking working so much and then still being poor but believe me when you are on your dream adventure it is so worth it. A good tip is to make a realistic budget of what you need to actually live off to make sure you are saving the most you can.

While saving you can still have a social life and do the things you want to do but persuade your friends to go out on week days for examples then it’s cheap and you can get drinks for £1. I had many nights out while I was saving me and Joe would only spend £10 together for the whole night. Instead of spending money on brand new clothes (if you actually need new clothes and shoes etc DON’T BUY WHAT YOU DON’T NEED) rummage through charity shops you will surprised at what brands you can find in there. Be frugal with your money.

Sell everything you don’t need! I went through my wardrobe millions of times trying on clothes to see what I actually wear. I found so many things which I hadn’t ever worn! I had things which didn’t fit me anymore but I still had hung up, sell it all! Use websites such as eBay, gumtree, Depop. If you have lots of stuff to sell you can also do a car boot.

Don’t spend money on getting your nails done all the time and doing your eye brows etc. It is so cheaper to learn to do these things yourself, then you can do them from the comfort of your own home. Read up and watch videos and I guarantee you will be able to do it.

Another way to save money is collecting a jar of loose change. The most tempting thing is when you have change in your purse, to just waste it on something pointless as you think it’s not much money. This all adds up, which you will find this out when you cash it in.

Don’t spend money on take away coffees and buying meal deals, make lunches and take them with you, take your own coffee out with you in a travel mug (they’re cheap and a great investment). Doing this will save so much money and often be a lot healthier! Two for the price of one!

Do as many jobs you can to get extra money: wash cars, do gardening any thing and everything. At one point while I was saving I was doing a cleaning job and café work in the same building. I would finish my shift and move straight to the next department. It was so tiring but my savings account was happy.

Get creative! Try and make people gifts and cards instead of buying expensive gifts. It is amazing what you can make for so cheap and people will appreciate the time and effort you have put in.

I hope this will help you save your money for your dream adventures! HAPPY TRAVELLINGG
